Trinity Lutheran Church was formed from 2019 to 2021 with the amalgamation vision of Faith, Grace, St. John’s, and Transfiguration Lutheran Churches of Hamilton. During the amalgamation, our goal was to develop a vibrant connected ministry and mission to serve Hamilton and surrounding areas.
Trinity is a member of the Eastern Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada.
The members of Trinity Lutheran Church have built a common vision and mission to represent their ministry in Hamilton. As we worked together, we agreed that our Hughson St. location would be the best place to live out Trinity’s vision, mission, and core values.
Without a doubt, the Pastors, along with the members of Trinity, offer meaningful, engaging worship and opportunities to serve our community so that God’s love is present in people’s lives.
Pastors
Pastor Daniela Mertz
I am part of the pastoral team of Trinity Lutheran Church. Thomas and I have three adult sons and Hamilton has been home for us for nine years.
I love the variety of activities that come with being a pastor. Some of my most enjoyable roles are counselling, leading worship and teaching the young and adults. In addition, I so enjoy in supporting and organizing outreach ministries.
If you are in the downtown neighbourhood, you may see me on my bicycle or watering our little garden in front of the church as care for creation is important to me. You are always welcome to come and find out more about Trinity.
Pastor Jordan Smith
I began my ministry at Trinity Lutheran Church in May 2024 when I was called to serve alongside Pastor Daniela.
I spent fifteen years living in Toronto and working in the sports television industry before following God’s call to become a pastor. I enjoy working with the many team members in our church to support our community outreach, education programs, and Sunday worship. You may also find me during my down time at the curling rink or on the golf course.
I look forward to getting to know you and continuing to learn about the communities in Hamilton and the surrounding area.
Team
Carol-Ann Koevoets
Office Administrator
It is my pleasure to serve as the Office Administrator for Trinity Lutheran Church. We are a community that seeks to meet and serve people wherever they are in their life journey.
I have found this to be a wonderful opportunity to serve the members of our congregation and to meet many new people in our community.
As a member of the congregation for 25 years, I have also taught Sunday School as well as singing in the church choir and praise team. Trinity is truly a warm and welcoming congregation!
Heide Lang
Music Director
I am the Music Director of a vibrant music program at Trinity Lutheran Church, with a background in teaching and as a professional musician. We have a wonderful choir who sing a wide variety of music. Our praise team leads us with a more contemporary feel.
The choir is open to all. We rehearse on Thursday nights at 7:00 pm at the Hughson St. location.
I am excited to be working with such a wonderful team to bring our worship services into the hearts of all who choose to join us.
Nancy Catton
Bookkeeper
Working on a part-time basis, I am the Bookkeeper for Trinity Lutheran Church. Prior to coming to Trinity, I worked as the Office Administrator for Transfiguration Lutheran Church for 15 years.
Prior to that, I was also an active member of Olivet United Church where I was the Treasurer for 5 years. As well, I was the Treasurer of the Women’s Group for 20+ years and the Librarian and a Trustee.
Cathy Calvin
Chairperson Trinity Board of Directors
I have been active as a member and in leadership roles for almost 50 years. My experience includes teaching Sunday School and my involvement in Evangelical Lutheran Women on a congregational, conference, synodical and national levels.
As the Chair of the Board of Directors for Trinity Lutheran Church, I have the privilege to work with eleven diligent and energetic people. We have laid the groundwork for a vibrant, growing congregation and more exciting times are ahead.
Change is never easy. We are blessed to have people with foresight and courage to look ahead to the future in our midst, particularly on the Trinity Board. I look forward to the challenges and the changes that next few years will bring.
Thinking about Joining Trinity Church?
Our church is about continuously growing in relationship with God and each other. If God and church are all new to you, our pastors are available to you and are happy to sit down with you to talk. Spend some time with us and find out if Trinity is the right faith community for you.
Volunteering Opportunities
Trinity engages in several programs supporting our neighbourhood from “Good-Food-Box” and “Community Fridge” to “Out-of-the-Cold.” Please talk to us if you like to learn more about these programs or if you would like to be supportive in other ways.
